NOLA Ramparts FC

Service: Visual Identity Design
The Brief
NOLA Ramparts is a brand new football team based in New Orleans, LA. The theme of the club and branding is the battle of New Orleans in 1815, where the Americans defeated a British army trying to seize the city. The aim was to pay homage to the battle and the overall history of New Orleans, and balance it with modern styling.
The Solution
The client wanted a scene of the battle as the main part of the badge, and to also have other links to the city of New Orleans itself.
So, in the inner circle we have recreated a view of the Battle of New Orleans looking towards the ramparts with a cannon placed in front. Placed behind the ramparts, the oak tree from the Chalmette Battlefield - 11 branches for each team member, symbolising the city and the protection the ramparts provided. The outer circle contains: ‘NOLA Ramparts’ - in a custom typeface we designed inspired by the letters on the New Orleans street tiles, fleur-de-lis - a symbol of New Orleans. For the outer border, we added two halves of a Crescent moon shape, another symbol of New Orleans.
The colours are inspired by the uniforms worn in the battle and the colours from the New Orleans seal and the Louisiana and USA flags.
